Propanol Clustering in Argon Matrix: 2D FTIR Correlation Spectroscopy

The dynamic FTIR spectra of propanol in the argon matrix have been measured using a thermal perturbation by heating sample from T = 11 K to 30 stepping 1 K. 2D Fourier-transform infrared (FTIR) absorption correlation analysis has carried out, main attention being concentrated region O–H stretching vibrations at 3000–3700 cm–1. peaks monomers, two conformers open dimer, and cyclic structures dimer pentamer resolved studied more details. Analyzing dependences integral band intensities various aggregates on temperature, it deduced that monomers dimers act initial clustering stage as "building units" whose diffusion sustains formation higher H-bond matrix. full width half height (FWHH) for each processed afunction aggregation number (n). It is found FHWW perfectly linear function n all ≥ 2. resonance broadening proposed be most reliable mechanism diffuse bands isolated clusters.
